About us
North Street Church has been at the centre of Taunton, the county town of Somerset, both geographically and spiritually since 1843. Our heritage lies in one of the earliest ‘non-conformist’ denominations, who have been pioneers of change throughout church history.
On Sunday mornings we employ a modern style of worship and encourage people to be led by the Holy Spirit and share what God is doing in their life. The main message takes the form of Bible-based teaching.
Our large premises occupy a prime location in the centre of Taunton and are used by several Christian charities and other organisations and companies.
Being a town centre Church surrounded by shops we have a unique opportunity to present a strong Christian presence at the heart of our community.

We desire to work with other churches and fellowships to demonstrate unity and to see God’s Kingdom increase and bring further change to our town and the surrounding area.
We are affiliated to the Congregational Federation, the Ground Level Network and are part of the local 'B-1' group of churches, whose leaders meet every week for worship, prayer and fellowship.
We look forward to all that God is going to do with and through us in the months and years ahead as we partner with others in His Kingdom.
James Taylor is the Minister of North Street Church and is originally from Cornwall. He was born in Truro and his hometown is Perranporth. James encountered the transformational love of God when he was sixteen at a Scripture Union beach mission. This experience and others that followed radically changed the direction of James’ life.
James is married to Hannah and they have two children. They have come from Truro Methodist Circuit where James served as a Pastor. They met at Lee Abbey, Devon where they lived and worked as members of the community. This experience confirmed to James the importance of belonging and contributing to community. James’ working background includes youth work, care support and community work.
James completed his B.A. (Hons) Degree in Theology, Mission and Ministry at Trinity College in Bristol. James is passionate about: following Jesus; carving out devotional time; connecting with people and building strong relationships; participating in community; reading interesting theological books; drinking coffee; lifting weights; watching engaging programmes and films; playing games; listening to inspirational music; and spending quality time with family and friends.
